Release Notes: Dimensions API Connector for Excel
We are excited to announce the official launch of the Dimensions API Connector for Excel, now available on the Microsoft Marketplace.
This Connector bridges the gap between the world’s largest linked research database and your most powerful analysis tool, allowing you to pull Dimensions data directly into Microsoft Excel for immediate analysis, reporting, and visualization.
Key Features
Native DSL Integration: Launch Dimensions Search Language (DSL) queries directly from within Excel. You no longer need to switch between your browser and your spreadsheet to gather data.
Automated Data Transformation: Say goodbye to complex JSON parsing. The Connector automatically converts API responses from JSON format into a clean, structured tabular format, ready for Excel pivot tables and formulas.
Vast Data Access: Access metadata for over 400 million records, including: Publications and Citations, Grants, Patents, Clinical Trials, Policy Documents, Datasets, Researchers, Source titles and Organizations.
Powerful Aggregation: Use the Analytics API to retrieve, aggregate, and sort highly specific data requests in a single call, reducing the need for multiple manual exports.
User-Friendly Interface: Once installed, the Connector is conveniently located under the "Data" tab in your Excel ribbon.
How to Get Started
Installation: Visit the Microsoft Marketplace and click "Get It Now" to add the tool to your Excel environment.
Access: Open Excel and navigate to the Data tab. Click the Dimensions API button to open the sidebar.
Authentication: Log in using your existing Dimensions credentials. (Note: An active Dimensions subscription with API access is required).
Query: Enter your DSL query, select your destination cell, and click run.
Why use the Excel Connector?
Efficiency: Automate the repetitive task of exporting CSVs and re-formatting them.
Up-to-Date Reporting: Create reporting templates that can be refreshed with the latest data in one click.
Customization: Combine Dimensions data with your own internal datasets or proprietary metrics within a single workbook.
